Edit 4/xix/14: THERE WILL BE A Motion-picture show?!

Decided to exercise a review of this after my fifth reread. :D

Doushitemo Furetakunai (translation: No touching at all/I don't desire to touch) remains as my favorite comic past Yoneda Kou and is definitely ane of my favorite M/K comics of all time. The story centers effectually Shima Toshiaki, the new employee of the systems section department of some undisclosed company, and his relationship with the department chief Togawa. Shima is an introverted gay human being who just got over an ugly human relationship with a closeted man from his previous company. Togawa is the polar contrary: loud, carefree, and very social in his dealings with others. He's also straight as a pole and has plans of eventually having his ain family unit.

While the plot itself may non win most original gay-for-y'all story of the century, peculiarly to veterans of M/K fiction, I believe the execution of it was done well. However, information technology was the creative style and characters that make DF shine among the stagnant waters of M/M comics (which is pretty much porn-without-plot it seems). Yoneda Kou has a very subtle, however poignant quality to her style that is reminiscent of some writing styles of M/M authors I very much admire and appreciate. I feel like I have to take the time to appreciate not only the quality of the actual drawings itself, but her execution of the story from 1 panel to the adjacent. I call it her "art prose" (at present I'yard just making upwardly words!). She doesn't actually focus on the sexual activity between her characters – it's in that location, just subtle and tactfully washed.

I do want to warn readers that there IS a published, translated version of DF titled "No Touching At All." It can be found on major retailers for digital download (i.e. Amazon and eManga) for purchase. I really detest to say this, simply I will be edgeless:

the official translations for this story sucks, and not in the mode that turns me on either. There are moments when conversations don't brand sense. That wouldn't have bothered me so much since this but occurs occasionally. Notwithstanding, it carried over to the more than intimate situations likewise where the moment felt ruined because of badly done translations. Afterward I bought the digital ebook version, I switched dorsum to rereading the fan-translated cloth after about halfway through and started enjoying it again. Not only that, but the digital quality of the published version leaves much to be desired (I was reading the PDF I bought from eManga on my iPad 2, and wasn't impressed). And then my recommendation: read the fan-translated version of DF online. It is well washed, understandable, and devoid of bad grammar and misspellings. You can read it online on whatsoever major "manga" hosting sites such every bit Mangafox. Here's a direct hither

This is the first BL I read by Kou Yoneda and I've constitute it engaging and very well adult.

The story follows the tentative human relationship that blossoms between co-workers Shima and Togawa and focuses on the ways the ii characters negotiate their new emotions for each other with their difficult past.

Although for very unlike reasons, both Shima and Togawa are scarred characters only their reactions to their painful memories couldn't exist more unlike - if Shima is shy and reserved, Togawa is rowdy and overbearing and pushes his way into his colleague's life with footling regard for the protective wall that Shima has built up effectually him.

Plainly following the traditional Yaoi pattern of the outgoing seme pursuing the more taciturn and unsocial uke , No Touching At All too breaks this mould by giving Togawa an extra veneer of endearing dubiousness and providing Shima towards the terminate of the story with a more assertive attitude.

One attribute that left me a bit perplexed merely that is, again, a rather common trope in BL stories is how Togawa is depicted from the outset as beingness a straight guy who merely happens to find himself deeply in love with another man. On the 1 paw, this attribute in yaoi manga responds to the romantic ideal of 'love conquers all' simply I detect information technology somewhat problematic in its dealing with sexual identity and gender norms.

The office life is the book is depicted in a lively and funny way, with a good eye for details and with a number of interesting secondary characters, especially Ryo Onoda who's the chief character in Yoneda's Even And then, I Will Beloved You Tenderly.

The drawings are very evocative, although probably this is non my accented favourite style. I actually love Rihito Takarai'south works, for instance, and they're visually very dissimilar from this, simply there's a beautiful sense of urgency in the way Yoneda's characters are depicted, their emotions so honest and raw and showing on their facial expressions and hunched-up trunk postures.

This is a tender and raw story, slowly called-for its style to the reader and leaving backside a trail of lingering feelings.

Information technology'due south well worth reading it.

Togawa is the seme; all his life he was straight. He meets Shima and immediately feels protective of him. There is no hot sex... merely tender sex activity IMO. And what I liked so much nigh Togawa is that he gave upward his dream of condign a father because he loved Shima then much.

All-time scenes:

- when they are on the train and Shima gets a call from his ex-lover and Togawa pick up the call and tells the guy to go out his boyfriend alone! or else, he (Togawa) is going to boot his ass, basically.
- when Togawa goes for the first fourth dimension to Shima's flat and spend the night at that place, in the same bed, only hugging him.

Sweet yaoi.

I did detect Togawa'south sudden sexual interest towards Shima a little difficult to understand fifty-fifty if he has but discovered his allure to guys and that he is bisexual. The lack of self dubiousness on his role made me question the plotline. Perhaps Togawa'southward transition to a bi wasn't tackled well.

I love the way the close downwards Shima gradually opens upward. And especially how Togawa threatens the ex-swain who fabricated Shima so miserable at work that he had to movement to a new company.

Onondaga and Deguchi's story was enjoyable, as well. I understood Onoda'south jealousy after Deguchi tells him he'southward been sleeping with other people. Deguchi confesses and Onoda asks for time. I think it was reasonable to expect the political party who confesses might "wait" for a while earlier sleeping with someone else, but information technology wasn't a dealbreaker, because they aren't actually together. Shima (gay human with angsty past) falls for Togawa (straight man with angsty past). For me, this had the PERFECT ratio of malaise to comedy. Other than the cute names for the volumes and the artwork existence a lot prettier than expected, with distinctive character designs, I really enjoyed the developing relationships and the conversations had about workplace homophobia and ostracization in Japan, although that wasn't the main focus. I found the main characters were well developed and the feelings in the relationships had a lot of depth and made the story feel grounded in reality.

They do include some questionable attitudes towards identification of sexuality-- two characters in both volumes are probably bisexual or on that spectrum, but are referred to as straight more in one case for liking women and just the man they enter the relationship with. It's complicated, but nada in either volumes always feels targeted or mean, but lacking instruction on the nuances of sexuality, and I tin only hope the mangaka has grown and has more of an agreement on sexuality now. I likewise found that placement of speech bubbles fabricated it difficult to decipher who was talking at points.

This was a cute story and I do wish information technology was a flake longer to aggrandize a bit more on both their traumas. I call up we could've gone deeper with it, but I even so really enjoyed it. I call back Yoneda gave only plenty. I call back the formatting can get a bit confusing and information technology'due south hard to tell who is talking sometimes, which I also had some of the same problem with Twittering Birds. Likewise all that the style the romance is written is just so good. Definitely something I'll want to reread.

This manga was not lite by any means and really focused on the hardships of both characters. I loved how realistic Shima and Togawa'south personalities were and how perfectly they matched each other. Non but that but the fears of a budding relationship and what comes along with it is very present throughout the manga. I read this digitally but I definitely volition be picking up a hard copy and so that I can mark information technology up with highlights on my favorite quotes. (Yes I write in my books cuz I like personali
